ROM - Read Only Memory
Thursday, 05 June 2003 07:35
Computer memory on which data has been prerecorded. Once data has been written it cannot be removed and can only be read.
Because ROM retains its contents even when the computer is turned off it is referred to as being nonvolatile.
Most personal computers contain a small amount of ROM and when the computer is turned on, it receives its initial instructions from ROM.
Users do not have access to the ROM, therefore they cannot change these instructions.
