The Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is a score derived from one of several different standardized tests designed to assess someone intelligence.

The spread of people along the IQ continuum, from low to high, can be represented well by the normal statistical curve.

Most people cluster around the average IQ of 100. Few are very bright to go above IQ 130 (the threshold for "giftedness"). Few people aer below IQ 70 (considered the threshold for mental retardation).
