Bulletin Board System (BBS) is a simple system for exchanging messages and files using a modem over a telephone line and a standard terminal software.
The BBS is a predecessor of the WWW and was widely used between 1978 and 1996. BBS's where mainly text oriented using simple ASCII character set and were driven by menus to access messages, files and newsgroups.In 1981 the connection speed was of 300 bps.
