NFS - Network File System
Friday, 21 September 2001 00:00
NFS allows workstations to transparently share a file system that physically exists on a central server. Client and server are connected via a local area network. NFS is an open specification that has been adopted by many (most) workstation/PC manufacturers. NFS uses RPC primitives built on top of XDR (External Data Representation) to allow sharing of file systems between machines with different operating systems, and file types.
